GGUSD has a variety of resources in place to educate students across all grade levels about the importance of digital citizenship and making safe, responsible choices online.  Additionally, GGUSD often hosts workshops and provides resources to families about how to help keep their children safe online. On October 12, GGUSD launched a messaging series on ParentSquare called Tip Tuesdays with important information for families and students on this topic.

Tip Tuesday – Safety on YouTube

Tuesday, October 26, 2021

Dear GGUSD Families,

It’s time for Tip Tuesday! YouTube is the second most popular social media platform, right behind Facebook, with about 2.3 billion active users. While YouTube does include wonderful educational and informative videos, it can also lead children down the wrong path to videos that are inappropriate and harmful for children. Good news is, there are ways to help make your child’s YouTube experience safer.

Here is a video highlighting five ways to help make YouTube safer for kids. Video link: https://youtu.be/N8P_6aj8VbU

Tip Tuesday – Oversharing

Tuesday, October 26, 2021

Hello GGUSD Students,

How much are you sharing online? Are you being protective of your most private information? Oversharing on social media can lead to your safety being compromised. Remember not to overshare or provide details that will allow potentially dangerous people from being able to find out where you live, where you go to school, or where you hang out. This is especially important if you have a public profile.

It is also important to moderate what you share because anyone can share it, save it, and spread it far beyond where you intended it to go. Check out the following video that highlights the importance of not oversharing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ottnH427Fr8
