POSTPONEMENT OF IN-PERSON CLASSES
Dear GGUSD Parents and Students,
We are thankful to our parents, students and community for your continued patience during the COVID-19 health crisis. In keeping with the majority of districts in the county, we recently announced dates to reopen schools for in-person instruction (October 5 for elementary and October 12 for secondary).
Initial results of the district-wide survey revealed a large number of parents requesting distance learning at their children’s home schools. However, parents also want more information about the specific plans at each school before making a final decision. By this Friday, September 18, our school administrators will send home information about their plans for hybrid instruction on campus, and subsequently confirm your preferences for in-person or distance learning. GGUSD is committed to offering learning options that meet the needs of our community, and each school is unique. Once school surveys are conducted, school staffs will be engaged in a complex planning process to match hybrid and distance learning preferences and determine if distance learning will be possible at that school site. Meeting the desired need of parents to have an option of distance learning at their home school requires significant planning, including determining schedules, matching appropriate staff, and securing additional technology.
While we had hoped we would be able to put all of these complex pieces together in the initial time frame, we have come to realize that, districtwide, we need more time and cannot meet the October 5th and 12th dates. We understand that parents have made plans related to these dates, and we will soon be announcing an expansion of on-site supervision options to support parents balancing work and their children’s distance learning. The district is working closely with school leaders and employee groups and will provide an update as soon as we have confirmation of the new dates. In the interim, we will be offering parent and student training, including videos and updates related to what to expect when we return.
Finally, the initial reopening dates were set conditionally, assuming that things continue to improve in relation to COVID-19. As always, we have to remain flexible as conditions outside of our control can change. The Board of Education and district leaders will continue to monitor the launch of in-person instruction at schools across Orange County as well as the COVID-19 infection rates in our community. We are committed to ensuring that our district is taking every precaution possible to foster a safe learning environment when schools do reopen.

Agradecemos a nuestros padres de familia, alumnos y comunidad por su paciencia continua durante la crisis de salud del COVID-19. De acuerdo a la mayoría de los distritos del condado, anunciamos recientemente las fechas para la reapertura de las escuelas para la instrucción en persona (5 de octubre para las escuelas primarias y 12 de octubre para las escuelas secundarias).
Los resultados iniciales de la encuesta que se hizo a nivel del Distrito revelaron un gran número de padres de familia pidiendo aprendizaje a distancia en las escuelas que les corresponden a sus hijos. Sin embargo, los padres también quieren más información sobre los planes específicos de cada escuela antes de tomar una decisión final. Para este viernes, 18 de septiembre, los administradores de nuestras escuelas enviarán a casa información sobre sus planes para la instrucción híbrida en los planteles escolares, y subsecuentemente confirmar su preferencia por las clases en persona o aprendizaje a distancia. El GGUSD tiene el compromiso de ofrecer opciones de aprendizaje que cumplan con las necesidades de nuestra comunidad y cada escuela es única. Una vez que se realicen las encuestas escolares, el personal de las escuelas participará en un proceso complejo de planeación para concordar con las preferencias de un aprendizaje hibrido y a distancia, y así determinar si el aprendizaje a distancia será posible en ese plantel escolar. El cumplir con las necesidades que se esperan y que tienen los padres de tener una opción de aprendizaje a distancia en la escuela que les corresponde requiere planeación significativa, incluyendo determinar los horarios, designar el personal escolar adecuado y asegurar tecnología adicional.
Aunque teníamos la esperanza de que podríamos tener todas estas piezas complejas listas en el periodo de tiempo inicial, nos hemos dado cuenta que, en todo el Distrito, necesitamos más tiempo y no podemos cumplir con las fechas del 5 y 12 de octubre. Entendemos que los padres de familia han hecho planes para estas fechas, y anunciaremos pronto una expansión de las opciones para la supervisión en el plantel escolar para apoyar a los padres de familia que están lidiando con el trabajo y el aprendizaje a distancia de sus hijos. El Distrito está trabajando muy de cerca con los líderes de las escuelas y los grupos de empleados y proporcionará la información más reciente en cuanto tengamos confirmación de las nuevas fechas. Mientras tanto, ofreceremos capacitación para los padres de familia y los alumnos, que incluirá videos y las noticias más recientes sobre lo que se espera cuando regresemos.
Finalmente, las fechas iniciales para la reapertura fueron programadas condicionalmente, suponiendo que las cosas continúen mejorando en relación al COVID-19. Chúng tôi vô cùng cảm kích sự kiên nhẫn của quý phụ huynh, học sinh và cộng đồng của chúng ta trong giai đoạn khủng hoảng y tế do COVID-19. Cùng với đa số các học khu khác trong quận hạt, mới đây chúng tôi đã gửi thông báo về ngày mở lại trường để các em có thể đến trường để học (ngày 5 tháng 10 cho bậc tiểu học và ngày 12 tháng 10 cho bậc trung học).
Bản thăm dò sơ khởi toàn học khu cho thấy phần lớn phụ huynh yêu cầu cho con em mình được theo học chương trình trên mạng tại trường của các em. Tuy nhiên, phụ huynh cũng muốn biết thêm những chi tiết về các kế hoạch cụ thể tại mỗi trường trước khi có quyết định cuối cùng. Trễ nhất là thứ Sáu, ngày 18 tháng 9, ban giám hiệu của các trường sẽ gửi cho quý vị những thông tin về kế hoạch của trường trong việc giảng dạy theo cách kết hợp tại trường, đồng thời xác nhận lại xem quý vị muốn cho các em đến trường học hay vẫn tiếp tục học trên mạng. GGUSD cam kết sẽ đưa ra nhiều cách thức học khác nhau để đáp ứng được nhu cầu của cộng đồng và nhu cầu riêng của mỗi trường. Sau khi thu thập lại các bản thăm dò, nhân viên trường sẽ bắt đầu tiến trình soạn thảo chi tiết để phối hợp hai lựa chọn của quý vị gồm nhóm học kết hợp và nhóm học trên mạng, cũng như quyết định xem việc học trên mạng có thể thực hiện được tại trường của mình hay không. Để có thể đáp ứng được nhu cầu học trên mạng tại trường nhà theo nguyện vọng của phụ huynh, nhà trường cần có nhiều sự chuẩn bị quan trọng, bao gồm việc sắp xếp lịch học, bố trí nhân viên cho phù hợp và bảo đảm trường có thêm các phương tiện kỹ thuật.
Trong lúc chúng tôi hy vọng có thể sắp xếp được mọi việc theo dự định sơ khởi, chúng tôi nhận ra rằng, toàn thể học khu, cần có thêm thời gian và không thể thực hiện được việc mở trường lại như đã định vào ngày 5 và 12 tháng 10. Chúng tôi hiểu rằng quý vị đã có những kế hoạch liên quan đến những ngày này và chúng tôi sẽ thông báo sớm về việc mở thêm những chương trình trông nom học sinh nhằm hỗ trợ phụ huynh trong việc sắp xếp công việc làm và kiểm tra việc học ở nhà của con em. Học khu đang kết hợp chặt chẽ với ban giám hiệu trường và các nhóm nhân viên và chúng tôi sẽ cập nhật với quý vị ngay khi xác định được ngày trở lại trường. Trong thời gian này, chúng tôi sẽ có những buổi hướng dẫn dành cho phụ huynh và học sinh, bao gồm các phim video và tin cập nhật về các diễn tiến khi chúng ta trở lại trường.
Sau hết, những ngày dự định sơ khởi để mở trường lại còn tùy thuộc vào điều kiện nếu tình trạng COVID-19 vẫn tiếp tục diễn tiến theo chiều hướng tốt. Chúng tôi quyết tâm áp dụng mọi biện pháp có thể thực hiện được nhằm tạo dựng môi trường học tập an toàn khi mở trường lại.
