Spring Recess and COVID-19 Safety Reminders

Friday, April 8, 2022

Dear GGUSD Families,

We hope that all GGUSD students and families enjoy the opportunity to spend time with loved ones, rest and recharge during the district’s Spring Recess next week from Monday, April 11 through Friday, April 15 when GGUSD schools will be closed.

It has been a busy winter and spring on GGUSD campuses as students enjoy the return of athletics, extracurricular events, field trips, music performances, and all that their schools have to offer. We are grateful that due to successful health and safety procedures, COVID-19 rates remain low on our campuses (case counts are posted by site on our Dashboard each week).

We encourage all students, families, and staff to remain vigilant over the spring recess to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We encourage all members of the GGUSD community to continue to monitor themselves for symptoms of COVID-19 and to stay home and test if any symptoms develop.

In recent weeks, GGUSD schools have distributed at-home COVID-19 test kits to all students and staff. Click here for details about using the test kits.

As a reminder, anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 must stay home for at least 5 days. Isolation can end after day 5 if symptoms are not present or are resolving and a negative test is collected on day 5 or later or isolation can end after day 10 without a negative test. Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 should not return to school/work until at least 24 hours have passed since resolution of fever without fever-reducing medication, and other symptoms improving, and they have a negative COVID-19 test or a doctor’s note confirming an alternative diagnosis.

For families traveling during the Spring Recess, click here for current travel recommendations from the CDC.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our schools safe. We wish you a happy and healthy Spring Recess!

Things You Should Know

  • Governor Newsom declared a Stay at Home executive order effective March 19, mandating individuals across the state to, except for essential services, remain in their homes to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Click here for the details.

  • The order does NOT change the directive for school districts to continue offering distance learning and meal service for our students. These are considered essential services.

  • As part of our transition to at-home learning, the district is closing its schools and district office to the public effective Monday, March 23.  The majority of GGUSD’s employees are working from home, responding to calls and emails as quickly as possible.

  • Teachers are working diligently to provide learning opportunities that can be accessed from home and schools have distributed laptops/devices to students as appropriate.

  • Parents are strongly encouraged to make sure your contact information is up to date in the Parent Portal. This will ensure that you receive regular communication from GGUSD via ParentSquare (voicemail, text, and/or email).
