GGUSD Plans Expansion of Family Resource Centers

Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) plans to open four new Family Resource Centers (FRC) in the next one to two years to significantly increase the level of assistance and care available to GGUSD families.  

The new Family Resource Centers will complement the work being done at the district’s Lloyd M. Stone Family Resource Center, which opened in 2017 to provide families with resources in areas like clothing, food, health care, housing, immigration and legal advocacy, mental health counseling, transportation assistance, and more.

Located on the Clinton-Mendenhall Campus, 13611 Clinton Street, the Lloyd M. Stone Family Resource Center maintains partnerships with dozens of community-based organizations and helps connect families to the resources they need most.

“We know that COVID-19 has only intensified the needs in our community and we want to ensure our families know where to go for help,” said Board of Education Trustee Teri Rocco.  “Our schools are a fabric of the community and expanding our Family Resource Center program reflects our commitment to serve our students, their families and the community as a whole.”

Expansion of the Family Resource Centers is being funded by a state grant from the California Department of Social Services under the California Newcomer Education and Well-Being (CalNew) program aimed at providing support for refugee and immigrant youth.
