GGUSD Ramps Up Anti-Bullying Efforts with WeTip Hotline

Ten schools in Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) are participating in a pilot program to combat bullying and cyberbullying with the help of WeTip, a national anonymous crime and incident reporting hotline.

Gilbert, Hazard, Hill, and Zeyen elementary schools, along with Bell, Irvine, and Jordan intermediate schools, will join La Quinta, Pacifica, and Santiago high schools as the first schools in the district to promote the WeTip service.

WeTip prides itself in being “the only totally anonymous crime hotline in the nation,” and will provide schools with materials and training. The hotline, 1-800-782-7463, is open and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. WeTip’s hotline is a solution for students and community members to take an active role in maintaining safe schools.

“We are excited about this pilot program because it gives our staff and students one more tool in their toolbox to keep our schools safe,” said Teri Rocco, Vice President of the GGUSD Board of Education. “Since the hotline is totally anonymous, WeTip helps remove fears about coming forward with information and reinforces the motto ‘if you see something, say something.’”

WeTip is operated by a professional staff that takes calls on a wide array of safety issues like abuse, bullying, cyberbullying, drugs, guns, suicide, theft, violence, and more.
