GGUSD Schools Open Wellness Centers
- Thursday, December 9, 2021
Schools throughout Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) are opening Wellness Centers to ensure students have a safe space on campus to focus on their mental health and well-being. The addition of school-based Wellness Centers is part of the district’s Choose Wellness campaign, launched in 2019 to increase and expand mental health awareness and support.
“Our school-based Wellness Centers provide students with another layer of support to combat stress and anxiety, which has dramatically increased due to COVID-19,” said Walter Muneton, Board of Education Vice President. “We know that stress can be a roadblock to learning and we want to give students the skills to cope with the personal challenges in their lives.”
Wellness Centers provide a safe space for one-on-one or group counseling, offer students a quiet space to process emotions and equip students with skills that help them overcome anxiety, fear and worry.

The addition of Wellness Centers are a small portion of the work the district is doing to support social and emotional well-being, including expanding mental health staff and counseling programs, supporting resiliency through trauma-informed teaching practices, and hosting monthly wellness webinars. Families are invited to attend the district’s webinar on Mindfulness and Stress Management on Thursday, December 9th from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. or 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees will learn mindfulness techniques to manage parenting stress, regulation emotions and cultivate well-being for parents and their children. GGUSD is proud of our robust mental health programs that include school counselors, psychologists, mental health specialists, and school social workers who are available to support students in need. Families and students are encouraged to reach out to a teacher, counselor or school administrator for help connecting to the right school-based mental health support for each individual need.
Additionally, GGUSD partners with Care Solace to increase access to community-based mental health support for students, families, and staff. Care Solace provides a 24/7 concierge service and easy-to-use web platform to help identify individualized mental health support services to meet each unique need for students, families, and staff. Those interested may email weserve@caresolace.org or call 888-515-0595 to speak with a Care Solace team member who will support with screening mental health providers by location or type of support and help with scheduling appointments.
