GGUSD Set to Offer Free Summer Meals

Members of the school district promote free meals for summer.

The Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) will be offering a free Summer Meal program to serve families in our community and help ensure that children do not go hungry when school is not in session. This summer, GGUSD will offer free summer lunch to all children age 18 and under at 14 locations.

The program is available through the National School Lunch Seamless Summer food service program and does not require enrollment.  Lunches, provided at no charge, are designed to meet a student’s nutritional needs. A typical lunch may include a submarine sandwich, pizza, chicken and rice bowl, salad, yogurt, choice of fruits and vegetables from the salad bar, juice and milk.  Last year, GGUSD served 64,173 meals through the program.

“For some of our students, school lunch is their primary source of food during the school year,” said Bob Harden, Board of Education president.  “This program meets a real need to fight hunger for our children.”

From June 18 through July 26, lunch will be offered at Lincoln Education Center, Rancho Alamitos and Garden Grove High Schools from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
